Tycoon games put you in charge of something — a park, a factory, a railway, a theme park — and then hand you a spreadsheet you actually want to read.
The tycoon loop
Build capacity, watch demand, reinvest profit, repeat. The skill is in pacing: expand too fast and you drown in upkeep, too slow and the game feels static. Most tycoon games are won or lost in the first ten minutes of spending.
Tycoon vs. management sim
A tycoon game is usually about growth and scale. A management sim is about operating what you already have. Many games blur the line, but if you want the thrill of expansion rather than the satisfaction of optimisation, you want a tycoon.
